AI & Data Careers
How to Get Into Data and AI Without a Degree (The Real Path)
You do not need a computer science degree to build a career in data and AI. I came into this field from a different background entirely — and the path is more open than most people are told. Here is the honest version: the skills that matter, the order to learn them, and how to prove them to an employer.
The skills that actually get you hired
- ▸SQL — the language of data. Non-negotiable, and learnable in weeks.
- ▸Python for data — Pandas and basic analysis. The workhorse of the field.
- ▸Data visualisation — turning numbers into something a decision-maker understands.
- ▸One cloud or BI tool — Power BI, or a cloud platform. Enough to be dangerous.
- ▸The ability to explain your findings in plain language — quietly the rarest and most valuable skill.
The order matters more than the speed
Learn SQL first, then Python, then a visualisation tool. Trying to learn everything at once is how most people burn out and quit. Each skill builds on the last, and each one makes the next easier.
Proof beats certificates
Employers hire evidence. Two or three real projects on a public GitHub — even small ones — will do more for you than a wall of course certificates. Build something, write up what you did, and show it.
I share the exact steps, tools and projects on the channel, including the path I walked myself. The full series is on YouTube.
